La Latina is not a
conventional area. Unaware of the daily routines of ordinary people,
this area of Madrid offers a diversion from the usual way of life. From Thursday until Sunday, the visitor will find places full of people willing to cheer up with a large variety of music and drinks. Sundays are the biggest days of the week. Making the most of The
Rastro, the outdoor market that has occured on Sundays and Festival days
since the end of the 15th century, the pubs open from the early morning
selling coffee with toast or hot chocolate with churros (Spanish
doughnuts). In the afternoon you can get the best tapas and "tostas" (toasted
bread with tomato and olive oil) in Madrid.
La Latina is the most popular area for the 'tapeo'. In the evening, beers and drinks last until you do, after a whole morning looking for bargains around some of the 3.5600 stalls that make up this traditional market. La Latina is a trendy area. More and more people are moving to the neighbourhood and it is turning into a phenomenon similar to Chueca with the gay community. La Latina 24/7 Fiesta!!! It does not matter what the hour of the day is: In La Latina it is always Saturday night.
